It may seem a simple choice of someone you like, but choosing an executor for your Will involves some criteria that you should adhere to for the best results.
Your executor will be responsible for filing several documents with the court, including an inventory. They will also be required to file your final income tax returns, and pay any outstanding debts from the estate funds. They are also the person who will typically manage the estate funds.
You’ll want to be sure that the person you choose has both the capacity and the integrity to manage the position well.
Choosing the wrong executor can delay the probate process and could cause more stress for surviving heirs.
